Welcoming Freshmen English Department UBM Ancol Campus 2024

JAKARTA - On 23 August 2024, the English Department of Bunda Mulia University Ancol held a Welcoming Freshman session exclusively for the English Department students. At 10.35, all of the new English Department students arrived to the room, led by their mentor.

Warm Welcome by ACES and English Department

ACES members gave them a warm welcome and help them arrange their place to sit. Then the session began with a greetings from our MC, Alycia. Followed by a material session regarding campus and English Department information presented by Ms. Suwarni Wijaya Halim, S. Hum., M.Hum. and Sir Ardi Nugroho, S.E., M.Hum.

Ms. Suwarni introduced the structure of the department, lecturers, subjects and other technical knowledge the students need to understand in future. After that, Sir Ardi conducted the presentation of events and activities the students will be participating while showing a peek of what the students in the previous year are doing through some photos during the events.

At the end of the presentation, the MC thanked both Sir Ardi and Ms. Suwarni and bridged it to the next session, the ACES and ELF introduction. Led by the president of ACES, Thalia Zefanya Loveina and the vice president of ACES, Jacinda Angel.

The goal of this session is to get to know what ACES is, the vision and mission, the structure of ACES, what ACES contribute to the department, activities ACES will hold and the benefits of becoming a member of ACES.

The QnA Sessions

Now the QnA sessions were open for any new students. Few questions were being asked regarding ACES and the English Departement in general. Right after there were no question left to answer, Eugene Isa Kafka Rahingrat, led a game session to break the ice. Eugene asked all the new students to participate to play Simon Says.

All of them were really enthusiastic in it, it was hard to narrow it down to two best but the game finally left with two students standing. They were rewarded with a special goodie bag for them. Finally, the event came to the end with the last interactive session, a story telling session.

The MC asked the new students to come forward and tell their story of why they chose to be in the English Department program, their dreams and goal they want to achieve once they graduate. Six of brave new students came to the front with their papers in hand, ready to tell everyone what they had written.

Each story told a unique journey about why they chose English Department program and willing to reach their dreams. They read their story out loud one by one. For their bravery and participation in this session, each of them was rewarded with a goodie bag prepared for them.

For the final part of the event, the MC told the new students to take pictures with all of the ACES members and lecturers. Then, the mentor led them again out of the room to had a lunch break.
