Welcoming Freshmen English Department UBM Ancol Campus 2024

JAKARTA - On 23 August 2024, the English Department of Bunda Mulia University Ancol held a Welcoming Freshman session exclusively for the English Department students. At 10.35, all of the new English Department students arrived to the room, led by their mentor. 

Warm Welcome by ACES and English Department

 ACES members gave them a warm welcome and help them arrange their place to sit. Then the session began with a greetings from our MC, Alycia. Followed by a material session regarding campus and English Department information presented by Ms. Suwarni Wijaya Halim, S. Hum., M.Hum. and Sir Ardi Nugroho, S.E., M.Hum.

Ms. Suwarni introduced the structure of the department, lecturers, subjects and other technical knowledge the students need to understand in future. After that, Sir Ardi conducted the presentation of events and activities the students will be participating while showing a peek of what the students in the previous year are doing through some photos during the events.

At the end of the presentation, the MC thanked both Sir Ardi and Ms. Suwarni and bridged it to the next session, the ACES and ELF introduction. Led by the president of ACES, Thalia Zefanya Loveina and the vice president of ACES, Jacinda Angel.

The goal of this session is to get to know what ACES is, the vision and mission, the structure of ACES, what ACES contribute to the department, activities ACES will hold and the benefits of becoming a member of ACES.

The QnA Sessions

Now the QnA sessions were open for any new students. Few questions were being asked regarding ACES and the English Departement in general. Right after there were no question left to answer, Eugene Isa Kafka Rahingrat, led a game session to break the ice. Eugene asked all the new students to participate to play Simon Says.

All of them were really enthusiastic in it, it was hard to narrow it down to two best but the game finally left with two students standing. They were rewarded with a special goodie bag for them. Finally, the event came to the end with the last interactive session, a story telling session.

The MC asked the new students to come forward and tell their story of why they chose to be in the English Department program, their dreams and goal they want to achieve once they graduate. Six of brave new students came to the front with their papers in hand, ready to tell everyone what they had written.

Each story told a unique journey about why they chose English Department program and willing to reach their dreams. They read their story out loud one by one. For their bravery and participation in this session, each of them was rewarded with a goodie bag prepared for them.

For the final part of the event, the MC told the new students to take pictures with all of the ACES members and lecturers. Then, the mentor led them again out of the room to had a lunch break.

Welcoming Freshmen English Department UBM Serpong Campus 2024

SERPONGOn Wednesday, August 21st 2024, the English Department of Bunda Mulia University Serpong arranged a welcoming session, exclusive for the freshmen of the English department.

 At 12:35 WIB, the session began with a welcoming speech delivered by the MC, Kheisya Laurentia Sukamto. Afterwards, the session continued with the first session, a “Study Program Presentation” by Ms. Suwarni Wijaya Halim, S.Hum., M.Hum.’"

Ms. Suwarni conducted the English study program introduction presentation, which encompassed campus accreditation, leaders and lecturers of the English study program, and an introduction to the 1st semester’s courses. Following this, she continued by displaying the achievements of the English major and showcasing some of the activities that had been held by the study program over the years.

 Introduction of ACES & ELF to Students

After the study program presentation had come to an end, it continued to the introduction of the English student association, "ACES & ELF Presentation". The presentation was led by the president of ACES & ELF, Graciella Kane Winarto. This session aimed to provide the freshmen with the opportunity to become acquainted and enhance their engagement in the English study program.

Thus, this session introduced everything about ACES & ELF, including their vision & mission, roles within ACES & ELF, and activities that have been held by ACES & ELF over the years.

 Entering the middle of the session, the MC took back over moving on to the game session. The game coordinators, Enrico Moses Stevano and Chryssanti Immanuella, then took control of the middle of the session to move on to the game segment. They explained to the freshmen how the first game, Spelling Bee, would be proceeding. However, before the game started, they gave a demonstration to the freshmen.

Interestingly, it ran more time than expected, reflecting the enthusiasm and ambition of the freshmen. Finally, the three participants remained standing in the Spelling Bee game, the game coordinators moved on to the next game, Connecting Words. Just like the previous game, the game coordinators again explained rules to the freshmen.

 Show & Tell Session

Now, at the final session, the “Show & Tell Session” occurred. In this session, each of the freshmen brought their autobiographies on paper, interpreting their dreams and goals as students of Bunda Mulia University. Five volunteers bravely stepped forward to share their autobiographies in front of the class.

Impressively, these freshmen shared truly interesting dreams and goals. Their willingness to share their aspirations was admirable and deserving of appreciation.

 And at last, the session had reached its end. To capture memories of Welcoming Freshmen 2024, the members of ACES & ELF alongside the freshmen took pictures together.

Developing Good Communication and Understanding Team Challenges in the Organization

JAKARTA  - On Saturday, July 27 2024, ACES Ancol held a special online seminar through Google Meet from 09.30 to 11.00 AM, exclusive for students of the English Department from both UBM Ancol and UBM Serpong campuses.

Titled "Developing Good Communication and Understanding Team Challenges in the Organization'', this seminar presented the challenges in managing yourself as a part of an organization in order to start a good foundation. Communication is a vehicle crucial to the development of an organization. 

The session itself started at 09.45 WIB by the event MC, Thalia Zefanya Loveina and was attended by UBM English Department students from various semesters, starting from semesters 2, 4, 6, to 8.

Furthermore, the soft skill training also opened with a welcoming speech from one of the English lecturers and also as the Head of Student Supervisor of the HIMA English Department, Mr. Christopher Setiadi, S.Hum., M.I.Kom., C.IW., CPS, CBPA.

For the speaker of this event, English Department UBM invite one of the alumnus named Meta Sya, the She is also a former member of ACES and has been held several positions during her active time in the organization. Her skill and experiences in communication and leadership are relevant to the theme. Meanwhile, for her professional career, she is currently a Content Creator at Teman Berteduh since 2024.

As the beginning of her session, she shared her ups and downs as a leader in organizations and how to maintain her communication with the team, common issues that audiences might face in the process, and how to deal with certain problems that might occur.

One of the most impactful parts of her speech was: “The key to leading a team is to understand that leaders and bosses are different. While a boss will focus on the results first, a leader will prioritize their people first”. From her speech and Q&A session, audiences can feel conscious about how they perform in the organization they are in.

There was also a game session where all the participants could play. A Quizziz round up questions of random topics. One of the participants, Clara Lawrencia, came up as the winner of the game.

The session then continued to be closed with the symbolic giving of tokens of appreciation by Mr. Christopher Setiadi, S.Hum., M.I.Kom., C.IW., CPS, CBPA. and the event was then closed with a group photo session guided by the MC.

By holding this training, it is expected that students can increase their insight on how to communicate and organize well. Furthermore, students can also get ideas in overcoming every problem in the middle of a group so that they can become problem solvers that have an impact in the middle of an organization.
